Oliver POS vs. Foosales

April 27, 2023

Looking for a new POS for your WooCommerce shop? We’ve laid out all the pros and cons of Oliver POS and FooSales for you. Here is a list of all the key components of a POS, and how both software measures up.

Installation Process

Let’s start at the beginning. First impressions matter, after all. You want a POS that’s easy to install, so it doesn’t leave a bad taste in your mouth before you even use it!

FooSales

Sign up and installation are two separate processes for FooSales–you must sign up on the FooSales website before you can access the plugin on your WordPress site.

Connecting your shop requires entry of your WordPress Consumer Key and Secret Key–so you better know where to find those, and if not–you better learn how to make them! Otherwise, installation is simple and speedy.

Oliver POS

Installing Oliver POS is a little bit smoother. You simply install the plugin on your WordPress site and register directly in the plugin. You can launch your new POS with just the click of a button.

Interface

When we talk about interfaces, we’re talking not only about the visual layout of the software, but it’s functionality as well. You want an interface that’s user-friendly and easy to learn, but one that also provides function and efficiency to its style.

FooSales

The interface is simple and intuitive, so you can figure it out pretty quickly. Product variations are listed under the original product, so all products are laid out clearly.

However, it does present some minor limitations. For example, there are very few shop settings or reports on the register. There is no option for a custom discount or additional fees. The customer list also presents a few issues–the list is not displayed, and customer names can only be found if searched for. Customer data is available, but there are no customer notes and no customer history, which may make it challenging to keep up with regular customers and sell to your full potential. Tax comes from your WooCommerce tax settings, but it cannot be adjusted inside the register. FooSales is available on desktop, iPad, and Android tablets, but not available on your smartphones.

Oliver POS

Oliver POS has a similarly straightforward layout. Products are displayed in a list, and the register’s customizable tiles make it easy to organize your products in whatever way makes sense to you.

Oliver POS also provides Oliver Hub, an easily accessible hub of all of your reports, data, shop settings, and more. Their neat organization and intuitive layout make it easy to manage your shop directly from your register.  Discounts, additional fees and taxes can be altered in the register, as well as inventory and product data. The register also allows you to keep track of customers with customer notes and purchase history.

Finally, Oliver POS is available on Windows, iOS, and Android.

Reports

It is essential for shop owners to have detailed reports on their POS, so they can understand their store performance and continually improve. Reports are the key to discovering what sells, and what fails.

FooSales

FooSales offers daily sales summaries, so you can track how much you make and how many products you sell on a daily basis.

Oliver POS

Oliver POS’s free plan includes weekly, daily, and hourly reports, and includes data on tax, discounts, store credit, net sales, and more. The date ranges come fixed with 7, 30, or 90 days, or 12 months, with a custom date range also available. Their more advanced plans come with in-depth data, including location, product,  and employee reports.

Integration with WooCommerce

When integrating your POS with your existing online store, you want it to be a smooth transition with little bumps along the way.

FooSales

The initial integration is excellent–it pulls everything, including products, past orders, customers, and more from your online shop. They also provide the option to import your POS into your online store, to update bulk orders made in your POS. FooSales also offers two features that Oliver POS does not have–the option to adjust prices in the register and push to WooCommerce, and the ability to use WooCommerce coupons at the register.

Oliver POS

Oliver POS, similarly, pulls your entire WooCommerce shop into its POS software. But it doesn’t end there! Because your POS and online store are constantly in sync, there is no need to ever import sales, orders, customers, or anything else from your POS or vice versa. Your POS automatically syncs to your online shop, so you never have to worry about manual updates.

Adaptability

The ability to customize your POS to suit your specific shop needs makes your life a whole lot easier, and your shop a whole lot more successful.

FooSales

FooSales does not offer much integration to other software or offer much customization inside the point of sale.

Oliver POS

Oliver POS is designed for advanced integration, so it can integrate any number of extensions, add-ons, or apps to create a personalized POS software. On top of that, Oliver POS is equipped with a number of customizable features: the register layout, taxes, fees, discounts, reports, and more.

Support

When things aren’t going as planned, you need someone there who knows what they’re talking about to walk you through it. Great support is essential for any POS.

FooSales

Foosales offers a Help Center, which includes extensive topics and an FAQ. There is an option to send a support ticket and to reach out to their support team on their website, and they offer email support for all plans.

Oliver POS

Oliver POS offers an extensive Knowledge Base and FAQ, support tickets, a contact form, and a live-chat on their website. With their paid plans, starting at $19/monthly, they offer chat support.

Performance for Cost

Overall, you want to get the most out of your dollar. Let’s take a look at what you get for what you pay for.

FooSales

Foosales offers a free trial for 30 days. Once your 30 days are up, their lowest cost is $30/month for their single domain plan. This allows up to 3 different users or devices. Their next plan, at $90/month, allows 5 different domains and up to 9 different users or devices. However, besides the number of domains and devices, there seems to be little difference in the two plans.

Oliver POS

Oliver POS offers a free plan with no credit card required, so you can use it for free for an unlimited time. However, Oliver POS does not offer multiple domains or websites like FooSales. Their Professional plan comes with multiple registers and users, and Empire comes with multiple locations.

Oliver POS provides more options for its plan, including a Basic Plan at $19/mo, a Professional Plan at $39/mo, and the Empire Plan which comes at a negotiable price depending on the features you need. There are more added features to their high-priced plans, such as advanced reporting, more registers and users, chat support, and more freedom to customize.

Oliver POS’ free plan is already equipped with more features than FooSale’s paid plan. Oliver POS’s paid plans offer a variety of special features, and are still less expensive than FooSales.

Conclusion

Both POS software has its pros and cons. Oliver POS excels when it comes to simplicity, support, versatility, and value. However, FooSales offers almost equal simplicity, with multiple domains and great integration with WooCommerce. If you would like a more visual guide, check our comparison page.
