How Apple Pay works with Oliver POS for WooCommerce

Apple Pay is not a standalone gateway; it's a wallet that works with your existing processor. Oliver POS automatically makes Apple Pay available in the in-POS browser view whenever your WooCommerce gateway (like Stripe, PayPal, Adyen, Mollie, Checkout.com, Worldpay, and others) has it enabled.

Apple Pay is a wallet, not a payment gateway

Apple Pay doesn't process payments itself. It's a digital wallet that holds the customer's card details and sends a secure, tokenised version to the payment gateway that's actually handling the money. Gateways like Stripe, Adyen, Mollie, PayPal/Braintree, Checkout.com, Worldpay, and Square will all show an Apple Pay button in their checkout page if the shop owner has enabled it.

How Apple Pay looks in the Oliver POS browser view

At the Oliver POS register, the cashier chooses the WooCommerce payment gateway (e.g., Stripe Checkout). Oliver then opens the gateway's payment page in the in-POS browser view. The Apple Pay button will be there next to the card form. If the iPad has Apple Pay enabled, the customer can just scan their iPhone or Apple Watch. Even better, if you've enabled Tap to Pay on iPhone through Stripe, you can guide the customer through a phone-to-phone tap.

Domain verification — just set it up once

To get Apple Pay working on the web, you need to verify your domain with Apple. Every WooCommerce plugin that supports Apple Pay will guide you through this one-time verification. Once that's done, the Apple Pay option will just show up in the checkout page – no need to re-verify for each payment gateway.

Best for retailers who…

You should enable Apple Pay at the Oliver POS if more than ~30% of your customers use iPhones – which is common for most retail in the US, UK, Nordic, and ANZ regions. There's no extra cost and no separate setup. The tap-to-pay experience in the in-POS browser view is the closest you can get to a physical card reader experience without actually buying one.
