April 27, 2023

This week’s comparison is based on BizSwoop’s Point of Sale (POS) for WooCommerce, another leading WooCommerce point of sale system. We tested it, and we’re telling you how it measures up to Oliver POS. If you missed last week’s comparison of Oliver POS vs. YITH POS, you can read it here!

Installation Process

Oliver POS

Pros

  • Installation is a piece of cake! Install, Activate, and Launch Oliver POS and start selling.

Point of Sale (POS) for Woocommerce

Pros

  • Installation simply requires installing and activating the plugin.

Cons

  • Launching your POS station can be a little confusing.

The Point of Sale (POS) for WooCommerce proved to be a little bit tricky to launch. While it’s easy to install, viewing the register was a little bit complicated. To start using your POS, you must first add a new register; you cannot view any of the default POS stations until you do this.

Interface

Point of Sale (POS) for Woocommerce

Pros

  • Simple layout
  • Products displayed neatly in tile form
  • Has customizable tabs to organize product tiles based on product, category, etc.
  • Easy to return to WooCommerce through sidebar menu
  • Customizable discounts and coupons
  • Allows you to fix price in POS
  • Allows you to add products directly on register
  • Available on multiple devices and browsers
  • Has built-in support ticket form
  • Has built-in conflict test

Cons

  • Saved sales are difficult to find
  • Does not allow for custom organization of product tiles
  • No customer list, only search bar
  • No customer purchase history or notes
  • No refunds
  • Payment gateways are limited, without the required add-on
  • Sales do not automatically complete after payment – you must select ‘Complete Sale’
  • Going back to the POS after returning to WooCommerce is time-consuming
  • Product variations are slightly disorganized
  • Products added on POS do not sync to your WooCommerce
  • Products added on POS do not save
  • The calculator to add discounts or fix prices is not intuitive
  • Reports, shop settings, customers, and most other options on sidebar menu simply take you back to WooCommerce
  • Does not offer more than one language

Oliver POS

Pros

  • Intuitive layout
  • Customizable tiles for product organization
  • Shop settings and reports all available on Oliver Hub and Register
  • Customizable discounts, additional fees, and taxes
  • Customer history and notes
  • Ability to change product inventory and customer information
  • Available on multiple devices and browsers
  • Offers split payments
  • Offers integrated payments
  • Offers refunds
  • Menu that brings you to Activity View or Customer View
  • Easy to return to WooCommerce
  • Offered in multiple languages

Cons

  • Does not offer multiple tax rates with free plan
  • Cannot add new products on the register

Both POS systems boast a simple and intuitive layout. While the interface for Point of Sale (POS) for WooCommerce seems straightforward at first glance, some of its functionality proves slightly inconvenient. Some tasks take longer than necessary, however. Returning to WooCommerce to view shop settings or reports, and then returning to your POS can be a long process, as the POS takes its time to sync every time. Likewise, sales are not complete automatically, and you must select ‘Complete Sale’ after the payment has been processed. Custom tabs to organize products is a definite advantage, however, the organization at the product and product variation level is left wanting.

Reports

Point of Sale (POS) for Woocommerce

Pros

  • Includes WooCommerce reports – which include various sales reports, coupon reports, customer reports, stock reports, and tax reports.
  • Date range is customizable.

Cons

  • Does not have its own reports.

Oliver POS

Pros

  • The free plan includes weekly, daily, and hourly reports, and includes data on tax, discounts, store credit, net sales, and more.
  • Advanced plans come with in-depth data, including location, product, and employee reports.
  • Date range is customizable.

Point of Sale (POS) for WooCommerce offers only the reports that come with WooCommerce – and while WooCommerce reports are great, it would be even better if they added their own reports on top of that.

Integration with WooCommerce

Point of Sale (POS) for Woocommerce

Oliver POS

Pros

  • Automatically pulls customers, products, and taxes from your online shop
  • Keeps your POS and your online store synced automatically

Cons

  • Does not allow you to add new products directly on the register

Overall, both POS have equal integration with WooCommerce. While Oliver POS does not allow you to add new products in your POS as its competitor can, Point of Sale (POS) for WooCommerce does not save these new products anywhere.

Point of Sale (POS) for WooCommerce offers more customization than your average POS, allowing you to customize product tabs, discounts, prices, and even add new products. However, its adaptability is not on the same level as Oliver POS.

Performance for Cost

Point of Sale (POS) for Woocommerce

Pros

  • Offers Free Plan
  • Offers three paid plans, all of which are inexpensive
  • Comes with both free and paid add-ons for extra features

Cons

  • Some features are limited

Oliver POS

Pros

Cons

  • More costly than Point of Sale (POS) for WooCommerce

Both POS systems come free with all the basics required to run and manage your shop. However, Point of Sale (POS) for WooCommerce’s features are slightly limited compared to Oliver POS, especially when it comes to support, reports, and interface. Additionally, Oliver POS offers more options for upgrading, including extensions, apps, and custom development.

Conclusion
