Giropay for WooCommerce POS

Giropay — Germany's bank-led payment scheme — at the Oliver POS.

DEGerman bank-to-bank transfer

Powered through the Mollie / Stripe / Adyen — Giropay-capable WooCommerce gateways plugin — install it on WordPress, configure under WooCommerce → Settings → Payments, and Oliver picks it up at the register automatically.

How Giropay works with Oliver POS for WooCommerce

Giropay was operated by the German savings banks and used for direct online bank transfers. Although the consumer-facing brand has been retired in favour of EPI (European Payment Initiative), the legacy plugins remain widely deployed. Oliver POS surfaces Giropay inside the in-POS browser view.

Giropay's history and current status

Giropay was launched by the German Sparkassen and cooperative banks as a domestic answer to PayPal. In 2024 the consumer-facing brand was retired in favour of the EPI wero wallet, but the WooCommerce gateways still expose Giropay where it remains active on merchant accounts. Where the legacy Giropay flow remains supported, Oliver POS surfaces it at the register.

Giropay at the Oliver POS register

From the Oliver register, the cashier picks a Giropay-capable gateway (Mollie, Stripe, Adyen); Oliver opens the hosted page in the in-POS browser view; the customer picks Giropay and their bank from the list; they authenticate inside their bank's online portal; the transfer completes; Oliver writes the WooCommerce order.

When to keep Giropay enabled

For older German customers and retailers with established Giropay marketing, keeping it enabled in the WooCommerce plugin makes sense. New retailers in Germany should also enable Sofort and EPS for broader coverage.

Best fit for retailers who…

Enable Giropay at the Oliver POS if you're a German retailer with existing Giropay customers. Pair with Sofort, EPS, and cards for full coverage.
