How PayPal Checkout works with Oliver POS for WooCommerce

Accept PayPal at the Oliver POS register for WooCommerce. The cashier picks PayPal at checkout; Oliver opens the PayPal hosted page in the in-POS browser; the customer pays with their PayPal balance, linked card, Pay Later, or Venmo (US).

Why PayPal still matters for in-store WooCommerce sales

PayPal sits in roughly 430 million consumer wallets worldwide. For a non-trivial slice of any retailer's customer base, PayPal is the most familiar way to pay — particularly for older shoppers, cross-border tourists, and anyone who already saves their card to PayPal rather than typing it again. Offering PayPal at the counter removes a small but real friction point.

How Oliver POS uses the PayPal WooCommerce plugin

The official WooCommerce PayPal Payments plugin already supports PayPal Checkout, Pay Later, and Venmo (US). Oliver picks up whichever methods you have enabled and surfaces them at the register. When the cashier chooses PayPal, Oliver launches the PayPal-hosted approval page in the in-POS browser view, the customer logs in to PayPal on the iPad (or scans the QR with their own phone), approves the charge, and Oliver records the order in WooCommerce.

PayPal doesn't have a card-reader for retail in most markets, so the in-POS browser checkout is the right place for it: it's a customer-driven, online-style flow happening inside a brick-and-mortar sale.

Pay Later, Venmo, and the rest of the PayPal stack

Whatever methods you have toggled in the PayPal WooCommerce plugin are the methods Oliver shows at the register. If you have PayPal Pay Later enabled, customers get the "4 interest-free payments" option in store too. In the United States, Venmo appears as a separate tile and lets customers pay with their Venmo balance. Apple Pay and Google Pay also flow through the same PayPal Payments plugin if you have those switched on.

Best fit for retailers who…

Pick PayPal Checkout for the Oliver POS if PayPal already does meaningful volume on your WooCommerce online store, if you sell internationally to PayPal-heavy markets (UK, Germany, Australia), or if you simply want one extra friendly payment option for tourists and older customers who don't love typing card numbers into an iPad.
