How Coinbase Commerce works with Oliver POS for WooCommerce

Coinbase Commerce lets merchants accept cryptocurrency payments and settle in crypto or USD/EUR. Oliver POS opens Coinbase Commerce's hosted checkout inside the in-POS browser view via the official WooCommerce plugin.

Coinbase Commerce, briefly

Coinbase Commerce is the merchant-facing crypto-acceptance product from Coinbase, the largest US-licensed crypto exchange. Merchants get a hosted checkout that accepts the major cryptocurrencies (BTC, ETH, USDC, LTC, DOGE) and can settle into a Coinbase account in either crypto or USD.

Coinbase Commerce in the Oliver POS browser view

The Coinbase Commerce WooCommerce plugin opens a Coinbase-hosted checkout page. From the Oliver register, the cashier picks Coinbase Commerce; Oliver opens the page in the in-POS browser view; the customer picks their cryptocurrency and either scans the QR with their crypto wallet app (Coinbase Wallet, MetaMask, Trust Wallet) or copies the address; the customer sends the payment; Coinbase confirms after on-chain settlement (~30 seconds for most chains); Oliver writes the WooCommerce order.

USDC for price stability

For retailers who don't want exposure to crypto price swings, accepting USDC (a USD-pegged stablecoin) gives all the speed of crypto with the price stability of cash. Coinbase auto-converts to USD on settlement, so the merchant's bank deposit is always in fiat.

Best fit for retailers who…

Pick Coinbase Commerce at the Oliver POS if you have a tech-forward customer base (cafés near tech hubs, gaming, electronics, niche specialty), if you want to offer one more payment option to crypto-native customers, or if you operate in markets where crypto adoption is meaningful (parts of LATAM, Eastern Europe, SE Asia).
