Vipps for WooCommerce POS
Vipps at the Oliver POS register — Norway's default mobile payment for WooCommerce.
Powered through the Vipps MobilePay for WooCommerce plugin — install it on WordPress, configure under WooCommerce → Settings → Payments, and Oliver picks it up at the register automatically.
How Vipps works with Oliver POS for WooCommerce
Vipps is the mobile-payment app used by ~75% of adult Norwegians. Oliver POS opens the Vipps hosted approval inside the in-POS browser view via the Vipps MobilePay WooCommerce plugin — customers approve on their phone, the order writes back to WooCommerce.
Vipps is the way Norway pays
Vipps is the most-used payment app in Norway, with over 4 million users — roughly 75% of the adult population. It started as a peer-to-peer payment app from DNB (Norway's largest bank) in 2015 and is now used for everything from splitting dinner to paying rent to checking out at retail. For a Norwegian WooCommerce merchant, offering Vipps at the counter is not optional — it's the expected default.
Oliver POS + Vipps via the WooCommerce plugin
The official Vipps MobilePay for WooCommerce plugin handles both Vipps (Norway) and MobilePay (Denmark/Finland) and is maintained by Vipps MobilePay itself. From the Oliver register, the cashier picks Vipps; Oliver opens the Vipps hosted approval page in the in-POS browser view; the customer either scans the QR with their Vipps app or enters their phone number; they approve on their phone with biometric; Oliver writes the WooCommerce order.
The whole thing takes 8-12 seconds. No card, no terminal, no signature, no PIN-pad — just the customer's phone and a QR code.
Vipps at-the-counter mode
The Vipps WooCommerce plugin supports both online checkout and Vipps's "at the counter" mode (Vipps på stedet). Oliver POS can use either — the in-POS browser view opens whichever flow the merchant has configured. For most retail use cases, the QR-code at-the-counter mode is the fastest, but for high-ticket sales the online Vipps Checkout is also a clean option.
Best fit for retailers who…
If you sell to Norwegian consumers at a brick-and-mortar shop, Vipps at the Oliver POS is essentially mandatory. There's no Norwegian retail customer base that doesn't expect Vipps as an option. Pair it with a card-gateway fallback (Stripe Checkout, Nets Easy, or Bambora) for tourists.
