How Worldpay (FIS) works with Oliver POS for WooCommerce

Worldpay (owned by FIS) is one of the world's largest acquirers, with a strong UK and US presence. Oliver POS uses the Worldpay WooCommerce plugin to open Worldpay's hosted checkout inside the in-POS browser view.

Who Worldpay is

Worldpay was the in-house processing arm of the Royal Bank of Scotland in the 1980s, spun out, listed, and eventually acquired by Vantiv (now FIS). It still processes a meaningful slice of all UK card transactions and has a strong US business. For a WooCommerce merchant in the UK or a US merchant who came in through a bank-issued merchant account, Worldpay is often the default acquirer.

Hosted checkout from the Oliver POS register

The Worldpay WooCommerce plugin exposes Worldpay's hosted "Business Gateway" page. When the cashier picks Worldpay on the Oliver register, Oliver opens that hosted page inside the in-POS browser view. The customer enters their card (or taps Apple Pay/Google Pay), Worldpay processes, and Oliver writes the WooCommerce order. PCI scope stays minimal because the card data lives only on Worldpay's domain.

Strong customer authentication, PSD2 compliant

For UK and EU sales subject to PSD2, the Worldpay hosted page handles 3-D Secure 2 step-up authentication automatically. The customer is presented with their bank's OTP or biometric challenge inside the in-POS browser view, completes it, and the charge clears. The cashier doesn't need to know anything about SCA.

Best fit for retailers who…

Pick Worldpay at the Oliver POS if you're a UK retailer with an existing Worldpay merchant account, a US merchant who came in through an FIS bank product, or any merchant who already negotiated a competitive Worldpay deal and doesn't want to start over.
