How Trustly works with Oliver POS for WooCommerce

Trustly is an open-banking payment provider that lets customers pay directly from their bank account, with no card involved. Oliver POS opens Trustly's hosted bank-authorisation page inside the in-POS browser view.

Trustly is open banking for retail

Trustly was founded in Sweden in 2008 and pioneered the "pay direct from your bank account" model that the EU's PSD2 regulation now mandates banks must support. The customer authorises a payment from their bank's online portal; the bank initiates an account-to-account transfer to the merchant; Trustly orchestrates and confirms in seconds. No cards, no card fees.

Trustly in the Oliver POS browser view

The Trustly WooCommerce plugin opens the Trustly bank-selector page. From the Oliver register, the cashier picks Trustly; Oliver opens the page in the in-POS browser view; the customer picks their bank, signs into the bank's mobile portal (often via BankID, Mobile-ID, or a similar national auth method), approves the transfer, and Trustly confirms. Oliver writes the WooCommerce order.

Why this is cheaper than cards

Card networks (Visa, Mastercard) charge merchants 1-3%+ per transaction. Account-to-account payments through Trustly cost a fraction of that. For higher-ticket sales, the savings are meaningful: a €500 purchase costs the merchant ~€2-€4 in Trustly fees vs €8-€15 in card fees.

Best fit for retailers who…

Pick Trustly at the Oliver POS if you sell higher-ticket goods in markets with strong bank-app penetration (Nordics, Netherlands, Germany, UK), particularly to a customer base accustomed to BankID-style bank authentication.
